Nackington is a private home in South East Kent belonging to a working couple whose house fills up properly at the weekends.
The setting asked for a kitchen that could do two things well. Ordered and calm during the week. Generous and unhurried when the children and grandchildren arrive, particularly in summer, when the food moves outside and the kitchen stays busy regardless.

The design is built around a solid walnut inframe kitchen, with granite worktops and a feature island at the centre of the room. The island was designed with a buffet spread in mind, long enough to lay out properly, with a wine cooler integrated into the base so nothing has to be fetched from elsewhere when people are gathering. A hutch pantry houses the breakfast items, dry goods, canned goods and the toaster, keeping the worktops clear for the work the kitchen actually needs to do. The double sink sits in front of the window. A pull-out larder and smart corner storage make certain that not an inch is wasted.
